The collection of logos across college athletics features a wide array of designs. Some are very simple and straight to the point with letters or acronyms, while others go the extra mile and use their mascot as the central logo.
And one would think being on campus every single day and seeing the logos plastered literally everywhere, students and athletes would remember the logo by heart, right?
Well, somewhere Lee Corso is saying, “Not so fast!”
During Big Ten Media Days in Chicago this week, football players that were in attendance representing their respective schools were given the task of drawing their team’s logo based purely on memory. Huge credit to Andrew Lind of Eleven Warriors for coming up with the idea.
Below you can see artwork done by Michigan players Mason Cole, Maurice Hurst and Mike McCray, and Michigan State players Gerald Holmes, Brian Allen and Chris Frey. The Wolverines trio had to draw a relatively simple, straightforward ‘block M’ logo, while the Spartans attempted to configure a more complex ‘Spartan helmet’ logo.
The staff at DSN has awarded Hurst and Frey as the best drawings for their respective bunch.
You can view the rest of the teams’ art skills here. Some are pretty spot on, albeit working with relatively basic logos, while others will give you a kind reminder that it’s okay to not be the most artistic.
