When it comes to rushing the football, the Detroit Lions have been extremely bad for quite some time now. So, it’s no surprise that one of the biggest missions Lions general manager Bob Quinn has this offseason is to do whatever it takes to improve the run game.
Many ‘so-called’ experts seem to have the answer. Some believe the problem can be solved by drafting a running back in the 1st Round of the upcoming NFL Draft (they are dead wrong), others believe it all begins with solidifying the offensive line (they are 100% right), and others still think Ameer Abdullah can be a solid running back (they MAY be right too).

But, when it comes to improving the Lions rushing attack, not many seem to believe Zach Zenner will be part of the plan.
That being said, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Zenner, who is a restricted free agent, is a player new head coach Matt Patricia likes and wants to give a shot.
Despite his limited role, new Lions coach Matt Patricia would like to re-sign Zenner and have him compete for a backup spot.
This report comes as a surprise as the thought was that Zenner had likely played his final snap with the Lions. In fact, in 2017, Zenner only played in eight games, carrying the ball 14 times for 26 yards and a touchdown. The 14 carries were fewest he has had since being drafted by Detroit in 2015.
Birkett also noted Quinn and the Lions also have interest in re-signing wide receiver TJ Jones, but they will not use a tender to bring him back. In 2017, Jones had a career-year, catching 30 passes for 399 yards and a touchdown.
The Lions have interest in re-signing Jones before he officially becomes a free agent later this month, but for now they’ve told him they won’t use the tender to bring him back, a person familiar with the decision told the Free Press.
If Jones were to return, he would likely be behind Golden Tate, Marvin Jones Jr., and Kenny Golladay on the depth chart heading into the 2018 campaign.
Zenner is as good as anybody we have at RB, I hope he stays
This is a stupid take, because you can take a RB in teh first round (you know, like Barry Sanders) and still address the O-Line. So glad some ppl aren’t GM’s.
