On Monday, the Detroit Red Wings general manager Ken Holland struck a deal with the Vegas Golden Knights just before the NHL trade deadline.

The trade sent Red Wings LW Tomas Tatar to the Golden Knights in return for a trio of draft picks.

Tatar has been a member of the Red Wings for his entire NHL career and on Monday night, he posted a message to his Instagram account thanking the organization and the fans.

“I would like to thank everyone in the @detroitredwings organization. To my friends and teammates that have become family, I will miss you. To all of the great fans of Detroit, your support means more than you will know. I also want to thank @vegasgoldenknights for giving me the opportunity to start the next chapter of my career.”

In 62 games this season, he has 16 goals 12 assists for the Red Wings, who currently sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. The Vegas Golden Knights, on the other hand, continue to shock the world as they lead the entire Western Conference with 86 points, just a point behind the Tampa Bay Lightning for the best in the NHL.

The Detroit Red Wings have made their first and apparently only trade of the 2018 Trade Deadline, sending winger Tomas Tatar to the expansion Vegas Golden Knights.

In exchange, the Golden Knights sent a first, second, and third-round draft pick to the Red Wings. He’s in the first year of a four-year, $21.2 million extension he signed with Detroit in the summer of 2017. His annual cap hit is $5.3 million, and the Red Wings didn’t retain any of his salary.
