Martha Ford, DeAndre Levy make list of ‘NFL’s 100 Most Important People’

USA Today Sports’ NFL Staff put together a list of whom they believe the ‘NFL’s 100 Most Important People’ are. Two members of the Detroit Lions‘ franchise managed to make the list.

Martha Ford, the Chairwoman of the Lions and outside linebacker, DeAndre Levy were the two lone representatives from the Motor City. Ford came in at No. 54 on the list and Levy saw himself at No. 59 on the list.

Here are the reasons why the staff saw them at their respective positions on the list.

We all remember when Martha Ford stepped up and did something that needed to be done. After the Lions got thumped by the Kansas City Chiefs in London 45-10, Ford cleared two front office positions, firing team president Tom Lewand and general manager Martin Mayhew. In an attempt to show the fan base that they deserved better, Ford swallowed a little bit of her pride and wrote an open letter.

Here’s the letter in its entirety.

“Dear Lions Family,

After the events of last week, I felt it was important to reach out to you.

I am sure you share my disappointment with what has transpired so far this season with our football team. We all had expectations that we would improve on last year’s success, but that obviously has not happened.

The organizational changes I made last week reflect not only our disappointment with this season, but also underscore our commitment to each of you.

You deserve much better. Your support, loyalty and passion for the Lions over the years has been nothing short of remarkable. You have done your part. Now we must do our part. You deserve a Lions football team that is a consistent winner and one that competes for championships.

In order to achieve this, we will conduct a thorough and exhaustive national search for the very best people to lead our organization.

I also want you to know that we are not giving up on this season. As I told the media last week and our players and coaches on Monday, we expect our team to improve, compete, and win.

Thank you again for your continued support of the Lions and please know that giving you a championship football team is the singular goal for me and my family.

Regards,

Martha F. Ford”

You felt as a fan that you deserved that statement from Martha Ford and gained a bunch of respect for her coming out and doing something like that for the fan base that has been so supporting through so many dark years in the Motor City.

Levy YoutubeDeAndre Levy was spotlighted for his very up-front and opinionated write up he did titled ‘Man Up’ where he discusses how sexual assaults in sports aren’t taken as seriously as they should be. Levy holds nothing back and gives his full and honest opinion on the topic. Pretty intense stuff by the Lions’ stud linebacker.

Something as in-depth as this list by the NFL staff at USA Today deserves some kudos for sure. They dig deep and have names on the list you wouldn’t necessarily think would be featured.
