Detroit Lions fans continue to wait.

Ever since it was announced that former Lions head coach Jim Caldwell was fired, the talk has shifted to who the next head coach will be.

Over the past couple of weeks, a favorite has emerged as Lions general manager Bob Quinn has been conducting interviews with coaches around the league.

One of those interviews was with New England Patriots defensive coordinator, Matt Patricia. Patricia immediately became a favorite to land the Lions head coaching job as many considered Quinn’s connection to the Patriots an advantage.

But, Quinn and the Lions are not the only team interested in hiring Patricia, and according to a report from Peter King of Sports Illustrated, Patricia may not even be interested in taking the head coaching gig in Detroit.

According to King, Patricia may be the No. 1 target of the Lions but he prefers the New York Giants. King also noted that if Patricia does go to the Giants that Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel could be the Lions next choice.

In Detroit, I hear Pats defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is the choice over Houston’s defensive boss, Mike Vrabel—but Patricia favors the Giants. If the Giants give the nod to Patricia, Detroit could be Vrabel’s job.

When looking at the current situations in Detroit and New York, it seems like a no-brainer to pick the Lions. Matthew Stafford is an established quarterback and the Lions team as a whole seems much closer to contending for a Super Bowl than the Giants do.

That being said, it’s important to note that Patricia is from New York and family could be a deciding factor.

Only time will tell, but Patricia to the Lions certainly does not seem like a done deal, like many expected.

No team can be close to a Super Bowl with one major player. I heard we were close to a SB with Billy Sims, with Barry Sanders, with Stafford, give us Detroit fans a break, same old lines used over and over again with Detroit Lions.
