Matt Prater kicks longest FG in Lions History

Matt Prater kicked a franchise record 59-yard field goal to end the half against the Chicago Bears. The previous Detroit Lions long of 56-yards was set multiple times by beloved long-time Lion, Jason Hanson. It’s no secret that Prater has one of the best legs in the NFL. Not only does he now hold the Lions record, he set the NFL mark with a 64-yard kick back in 2013 with the Denver Broncos.

Prater has been very consistent this year, only missing one field goal all season coming into the game. Extra points have been a different story.

Unfortunealty, Prater did miss his second field goal of the year on a 54-yard attempt before his record-breaking kick. He missed it wide right just to switch field directions in the second quarter and make Lions history.
