Matthew Stafford: “I don’t even know what going viral means”

Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford knows all about slinging the football around, but when it comes to going viral, his knowledge appears to drop off a bit.

Following Thursday's practice, Stafford grabbed a drink of water before his interview; MLive Lions writer Kyle Meinke joked that he didn't chug it.

Of course, there's been plenty of video of quarterbacks chugging beers lately; Green Bay's Aaron Rodgers struggled to down his suds while at a Milwaukee Bucks playoff game, while Kanasas City's Patrick Mahomes accomplished the feat while taking in a Stanley Cup Finals game in St. Louis. Chicago’s Mitchell Trubisky did the same at a White Sox game.

But Stafford especially put Rodgers to shame when his wife Kelly recorded him downing a tall draft beer in a matter of seconds as if it were nothing. He certainly went viral after that, but apparently, he's not too well versed in social media lingo.

“I don’t even know what going viral means, to be honest with you,” said Stafford.

Of course, Rodgers had to comment on his fellow quarterbacks outdoing him.

“If you want to go scotch, I feel pretty good about it. As far as those other guys, for some of them, there’s finally a talent where they can say they’re better than me at,” he said.
