Matthew Stafford explains how he got over Sunday’s tie (loss) vs. Cardinals

The Detroit Lions had a win staring them straight in the face…until the didn’t.

After Matthew Stafford hit rookie TE T.J. Hockenson for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter, the Lions led the Arizona Cardinals 24-6.

Up until that point, the Lions defense owned rookie quarterback Kyler Murray but when the offense started to get conservative, the defense got tired and Murray took advantage in a big way.

In fact, Murray led the Cardinals all the way back and tied the game at 24-24 at the end of the fourth quarter.

By the time all was said and done, Lions and Cardinals tied 27-27 but to be honest, it felt much more like a loss for Detroit.

On Wednesday, Stafford was asked by the media how he got over what happened against Arizona.

From Maven Sports:

“You just start watching tape on the other team,” Stafford said Wednesday. “You can’t dwell on it, whether it was a great win and great performance, or a blowout loss and a terrible performance.”

“If you do this a long time you understand that. If you don’t understand that you probably don’t do this for a long time. It’s part of what is ingrained in us. We move forward. You have to. You watch the tape, the other team grabs your attention, and you just get lost in trying to prepare for that team.”

Stafford is 100% right. Whether you pick up a huge win, a devastating loss, or a shocking tie, there is absolutely no point in focusing on it for too long. The best thing, regardless of what happened the week before, is to move on to the next opponent.

In this case, that opponent is the Los Angeles Chargers.
