The 2019 regular season is one Detroit Lions fans are going to try and forget as soon as they possibly can. After all, in a year where everything seemed to go wrong, the Lions finished with a 3-12-1 record, which earned them the No. 3 pick in the NFL Draft.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford, who only played in 8 games due to a broken back, sat down with report Lions reporter Tor Petry and he talked about what went wrong in 2019.
“We were close in a lot of them,” Stafford said to Petry. “Had a bunch of leads and didn’t win. That’s tough to swallow. Had opportunities, really in every phase. Offense had chances to seal games and didn’t get it done. Defense the same way. Special teams, maybe a big play late in the game to help us win. One way or another, we didn’t get it done. It’s tough to say that, because it’s the truth. We just didn’t play good enough to win.”
As far as the 2020 season goes, Stafford believes everybody elevating their level of play is the key to success.
“I think everybody just has to raise their level of play,” Stafford said. “Coaches do a great job of self-evaluation. Everybody in this organization looks at themselves in the mirror and asks, ‘how can I improve to help us?’ That is a step in the right direction.”
Nation, what do you think is the key to the Lions’ success in 2020?
