On Sunday, the Detroit Lions will be taking on the Chicago Bears in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season.
The NFL has permitted players to add decals to their helmets which promote social justice in America and many Lions players will be participating.
Within the past hour, the Lions tweeted out a “We Won’t Be Silent” thread which shows some of the messages which will be on their helmets for Sunday’s game, along with some explanations why they are wearing them.
One of the players to reveal their helmet decal is Lions QB Matthew Stafford who will have “It takes all of us” on the back of his helmet.
“This is an issue everyone needs to be involved in. We need the best of each other now more than ever,” Stafford said.
Also wearing a decal will be S Tracy Walker. Walker is the cousin of Ahmaud Arbery, who was fatally shot while jogging near Brunswick in Glynn County, Georgia. Walker’s decal will say “Ahmaud Arbery.”
Ahmaud was my cousin, and I want to represent him and everything he stood for such as happiness, laughter and putting smiles on people’s faces,” Walker said.
