The Buckeyes cruised to a 52-12 victory with ease over the Spartans, firmly establishing themselves as the team to beat in the Big Ten. Justin Fields was 17-of-24 passing with four touchdowns, while the Spartans routinely had to settle for punts on their offensive possessions.
Afterwards, head coach Mel Tucker bemoaned his team’s effort, promising that he would be physically ill once he starts watching the film from today’s debacle.
Quarterback Rocky Lombardi was replaced by Payton Thorne after the former suffered a big hit in the second quarter. According to Tucker, the extent of the injury isn’t yet known.
