Michigan alum Jake Cronenworth was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 7th round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft and up until this season, he had been doing everything he could to get his shot in the big leagues.
Well, after being traded to the San Diego Padres following the 2019 season, Cronenworth is not only getting his shot but he very well could be on his way to winning the National League Rookie of the Year award.
Heading into Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros, Jake was hitting a team-best .328 with two home runs and seven RBIs but those numbers just got a little bit better.
In fact, in the bottom of the second inning, Cronenworth came up with the bases loaded and he proceeded to hit the first grand slam of his career to give the Padres an 11-1 lead.
Check it out.
