Michigan has lost a young piece of its secondary to the transfer portal, as true freshman cornerback Elijah Dotson has committed to Missouri, according to a report from Hayes Fawcett of On3.
Dotson, a highly touted member of Michigan’s 2025 recruiting class, was ranked as a Top 100 overall prospect by On3 and arrived in Ann Arbor with big expectations. Despite being just a freshman, he saw the field during the 2025 season and finished with 16 total tackles, two pass breakups, and one interception.

The move sends Dotson back to SEC country, where he will look to carve out a larger role in Missouri’s secondary. For Michigan, it’s another example of how competitive and fluid the transfer portal has become, especially for young defensive backs who are eager for immediate playing time.
While the Wolverines continue to reload through both high school recruiting and the portal, losing a former blue-chip corner like Dotson is a reminder that roster turnover is now a year-round reality in college football.
