Michigan Center Hunter Dickinson Condemns Comparison of Michigan State Basketball Coach Tom Izzo to Adolf Hitler in Podcast

Michigan center Hunter Dickinson was part of the decision to remove a podcast in which a co-host compared Tom Izzo to Adolf Hitler.

Hunter Dickinson Condemns Comments

Dickinson has condemned a published Barstool Sports podcast in which one of the co-hosts compared Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo to Adolf Hitler. Dickinson, a regular on the podcast but could not recall if he was present when the comment was made, said, “I don’t associate myself with that comment…I have a lot of respect for Tom Izzo.” He added, “There won’t be any more Hitler comments going forward, especially about Tom Izzo…that’s not who I am.” Michigan is set to play the Spartans on the road on Saturday.

Why it matters: The comparison of Izzo, a Basketball Hall of Fame coach with one national championship and eight Final Four appearances, to Hitler, who was responsible for the systematic murder of 6 million Jews in Europe, is unacceptable. Dickinson’s condemnation of the comment is important in ensuring that this type of language is not tolerated.

By the Numbers:

  • Michigan is 9-5 overall and 3-0 in the Big Ten.
  • The Spartans are 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the Big Ten.
  • The Wolverines will play the Spartans on the road on Saturday.
