Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines just swooped out of nowhere to beat out Ohio State and Alabama for a 4-star recruit.
According to a report from 247Sports, 2022 four-star offensive lineman Andrew Gentry has committed to Michigan.
From 247Sports:
Andrew Gentry, a former four-star offensive tackle in the 2022 class who has been away serving his two-year church mission, is set to sign with the Wolverines and join the program in May, his father, Todd, tells 247Sports.
Gentry signed with Virginia nearly two years ago but a window opened for Jim Harbaugh to make his push following the departure of head coach Bronco Mendenhall.
“He met with coach Jim Harbaugh, coach Sherrone Moore and coach Shaun Nua yesterday and gave them his commitment,” Todd Gentry said. “There was a lot of familiarity and that decision, when it was originally made, Michigan was, I’d say, just a tiny bit behind the top spot at No. 2. He is familiar with the campus and coaching staff. Coach Moore was the tight ends coach at the time, so when the announcement came about coach Bronco at Virginia, we were able to send Andrew an e-mail. Then we were able to get on the phone with him on Monday and it was clear and evident that Michigan was where he wanted to go. He really, really wanted to go to Michigan. He hasn’t been updated on what has been going on this season. He knows they’re in the playoff semifinal, but this decision had nothing to do with how they’re doing this year on the field. It was all about what he felt about Michigan during the process.”
This is a very nice get for Harbaugh and the Wolverines.
