Michigan lands commit from 4-star Traverse City West OT Ryan Hayes

The University of Michigan has reportedly landed its second commit from the state of Michigan in the last week. Per Steve Wiltfong of 247Sports, Traverse City West offensive tackle Ryan Hayes, a 4-star prospect, has pledged to the Wolverines.

Hayes (6-foot-7, 252 pounds) is regarded as a top-3 player in the state of Michigan from the Class of 2018, according to the 247Sports Composite, and a top-20 offensive tackle. He had been looked at heavily by a pair of Michigan’s rivals, Michigan State and Notre Dame, but a recent unofficial visit to Ann Arbor in March effectively sealed the deal for him.

“It just felt right from my first visit and I just loved everything about it there,” Hayes added.

Hayes is not only a multi-sport athlete (also plays basketball and baseball at TCWHS), but is also a multi-position player on the football team. He has also played significant time at tight end and could become a regular at Michigan at one of his two playable spots.

To reiterate, Hayes is the second Mitten-made high schooler from the ’18 class to pledge to the Wolverines in the last week. Fellow 4-star offensive lineman Jalen Mayfield out of Grand Rapids Catholic Central announced his commitment to Michigan on Tuesday, May 23.

2018 MICHIGAN CLASS COUNTER: 10

The latest pledge from Hayes now gives Michigan 10 commits for the Class of 2018, three of which are from the state of Michigan, matching the total number of pledges Michigan has from the state of Georgia.

Of the 10 commits, seven are of the 4-star variety. And according to 247Sports, the recent addition of Hayes really improved their stock for the 2018 class. Overall, Michigan now ranks 7th nationally and 3rd among Big Ten schools, behind only Ohio State (2nd overall) and Penn State (3rd overall).
