The latest commit from the Class of 2019 for Michigan football is a local product. Paw Paw High School offensive lineman Karsen Barnhart has committed to the Wolverines.
Barnhart (6-2, 284) is rated as a 3-star prospect in the Class of 2019. He ranks as a top-15 player in the state of Michigan and a top-40 offensive tackle recruit, per the 247Sports Composite rankings.
His commitment to the Wolverines is not too much of a surprise, as it was widely believed he would end up at Michigan or in-state rival Michigan State. Barnhart even made multiple visits to MSU this calendar year, after the Spartans offered him a scholarship in mid-January.
Barnhart ultimately chooses Michigan over the likes of other Big Ten programs, including Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, and the aforementioned Spartans.
2019 MICHIGAN CLASS COUNTER: 10
Barnhart is the first in-state recruit from this class for head coach Jim Harbaugh, who is off with the current Wolverines football team in France doing God knows what.
He is also the third offensive lineman prospect for Michigan and second to commit under the guidance of new offensive line coach Ed Warinner. The team also received a verbal commitment from 3-star offensive tackle Jack Stewart (New Canaan, CT) back in mid-April.
