The Michigan Wolverines suffered an embarrassing loss to the underdog and in-state rival Michigan State Spartans at the Big House on Saturday afternoon.
Not only was it Michigan State’s second win against the Wolverines in four years, but it was also the first win for new head coach Mel Tucker.
As far as Michigan’s coaching staff is concerned, Jim Harbaugh is feeling the heat from media members and the fan base. Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis appeared on 97.1 The Ticket this morning to discuss his thoughts regarding the loss, and he didn’t pull any punches with regard to the mood in the program right now.

“We have to rally the troops – there’s a feeling of disappointment around the program,” he said. “It’s not anything we accept or settle for, and we have to continue to find a way to get this next one (game against Indiana).”
When asked what he and the rest of the coaching staff can do to improve the mood among the team while continuing to keep their eyes set on their next opponent, Gattis’ theme was staying positive and together.
“It was a game that ended in disappointment for us,” he said about Michigan State. “We have to find ways in areas to improve,” he said. “I think being able to rally the troops and being able to keep them together when adversity hits – first thing that tends to happen is that things can fall apart. We’ve got to remain positive, remain together, and continue working on the things we have to continue working on.”
The No. 23 Wolverines and No. 13 Hoosiers will get underway from Memorial Stadium in Bloomington, Indiana this Saturday at 12:00 PM EST.

Certainly a major rebound for head coach Mel Tucker and the Spartans, who dropped their opening game last week to Rutgers.
Two notable alumni from both sides were in quite opposite moods after the game, as one could expect. Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, who starred on the hardwood in East Lansing, made sure to rub the loss in the face of former Michigan DB Charles Woodson:
Meanwhile, former Wolverines DE Chase Winovich wasn’t in as celebratory of a mood:
