The Michigan State Spartans are set to begin another season on the hardwood with the ever-steady Tom Izzo guiding the way. And while his team is on the verge of competition, they’re not currently ranked inside of the AP-Top 25 polling.
During today’s media day, Izzo explained that he’s not happy about it.
“Not being ranked in the Top 25 for the first time since 2012, it does tick me off. but I understand it,” Izzo said.
Meanwhile, there was a change made to Izzo’s staff. Long-time assistant Mike Garland will become special assistant to Izzo, while Mark Montgomery will go from recruiting coordinator to one of the Spartans’ three full-time assistant coaches.
“I think we’re a well-oiled machine right now,” Izzo said of his staff.
Of course, Izzo can’t help but notice the wondrous accomplishments that Kenneth Walker III has achieved on the gridiron, and he’s hoping for similar luck with his squad.
“I hope our Walker (Tyson) is as good as their Walker (Kenneth),” he said.
The Spartans open up their season on November 9 against the No. 3 ranked Kansas Jayhawks.
