Michigan State is adding to it’s 30th ranked 2018 recruit class, with a 4-star lineman, and a 3-star running back.

The announcements started with 3-star running back Elijah Collins out of U-D Jesuit.

Collins is the first running back commitment for the 2018 freshman class at MSU, is the top-ranked running back in Michigan, and the 57th ranked running back in the country according to 247Sports. Michigan State offered him a scholarship back in late January and he ultimately chose the Spartans over a host of other schools, including fellow Big Ten programs Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Collins and the Cubs of Jesuit this season are off to a struggling 1-4 start after the team collected six wins and reached the state playoffs a year ago. Jesuit’s next game is Friday night (September 29) against Saint Joseph High School (4-1). The game will be played at Hazel Park High School.

Additionally, the Spartans also nabbed some help in the trenches as 4-star offensive lineman James Ohonba announced his commitment to Michigan State just minutes later.

Ohonba is rated as the second-best offensive tackle in Georgia, and 24th overall, according to 247Sports. His commitment comes just one week after he made an official visit to East Lansing. Like Collins, Ohonba is pledging to MSU over some other big-name programs, including a host of SEC schools, most notably Alabama. Other schools to have reportedly offer the 6-4, 345-pound Ohonba include Clemson, Notre Dame and Ohio State.

2018 CLASS COUNTER: 17

With the hard commits from both Collins and Ohonba, Michigan State now owns the 30th-best recruiting class in the country, per 247Sports. It’s a crop of 17 prospects that ranks 5th among Big Ten programs as well.

Collins is the fourth in-state player to pledge to MSU for next season, while Ohonba is the second player from Georgia to commit to the Spartans. He joins 3-star cornerback Christian Jackson (Marietta, GA), who pledged back in March.
