Michigan State Spartans close season with Pinstripe Bowl victory

The Michigan State Spartans closed out a disappointing 2019 season with a win in the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium on Friday.

The Spartans (7-6, 4-5 Big Ten) took down Wake Forest (8-5, 4-4 ACC) by a 27-21 final score thanks to a solid performance from quarterback Brian Lewerke, who was 26-for-37 passing for 320 yards and a touchdown.

Wake Forest quarterback Jamie Newman countered by going 12-for-27 passing for 175 yards, three touchdowns and one interception.

Michigan State was led by Cody White had eight receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown. Meanwhile, Jalen Nailor had five catches for 60 yards, and Trenton Gillison had four grabs for 88 yards.

The ground game was led by Elijah Collins with 21 rushes for 96 yards.
