Within the past hour or so, the Detroit Free Press reported that sources have indicated to them that the Big Ten has indeed decided to cancel football for the 2020 season.
Just moments ago, Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh released a statement in which he advocates for a fall football season.
“I’m not advocating for football this fall because of my passion or our players desire to play but because of the facts accumulated over the last eight weeks since our players returned to campus on June 13. I am advocating on August 10 that this virus can be controlled and handled because of these facts:”
Harbaugh went on to give bullet points of exactly why he believes a 2020 college football season can/and should take place.
Unfortunately, it sounds like Harbaugh’s plea is too little to late as the Big Ten is expected to make a formal announcement on Tuesday that the 2020 season has been canceled.
