Miguel Cabrera asks Guardians catcher about weather in middle of at-bat [Video]

Detroit Tigers designated hitter Miguel Cabrera may be 39-years-old but he is still a kid at heart when it comes to playing the game of baseball.

During a recent game against the Cleveland Guardians, Cabrera decided to have some fun by asking about the forecast during the middle of one of his at-bats.

Guardians catcher Austin Hedges recently joined the Chris Rose Rotation podcast and he told the story about Cabrera asking him and the umpire about the weather.

Miguel Cabrera is always having fun

From 97.1 the Ticket:

“This dude is pure comedy,” Hedges said on the most recent episode of the Chris Rose Rotation podcast. “When you get to play against first-ballot Hall of Famers, it’s the best ticket in the house. Like, I’d pay $5,000 just to have my seat be at catcher for Miguel Cabrera.”

“Takes the first pitch, nothing. Takes the second pitch, then casually steps out of the box, looks around, looks at me and the umpire and he goes, ‘You think it’s going to rain today?’ Like, what?” Hedges said, laughing. “Like, ‘I don’t know, Miggy, maybe.’ Looks around a little bit more and goes, ‘I think I’m gonna hit a home run right here.’ I swear, bro.”

“And in my head I’m like, ‘If he goes deep right here, this is the coolest thing thing ever.’ I’m actually not going to be mad because he just said I’m gonna do it. We ended up punching his ticket, which was even cooler.”

The next time Miguel Cabrera came up to bat, he told Hedges that the Guardians have to pitch him insider or they are “fu*ked.”

“He kind of gives me the look,” Hedges smiled. “I’m like, ‘I know, man, sorry. You know how it is.’ And he goes, ‘Hey, I know the report. You have to pitch me inside, otherwise you’re fu*ked.’ Like, ‘You’re right, bro! You’re right. We have to.’ You just throw Miggy middle-away, middle-away, he’s going to hit one of his 3,000 hits or 500 homers off of you.”

“He’s great, man. He’s great,” said Hedges. “It is a true joy to be able to compete against him.”

Folks, this is just the latest example of Miggy being Miggy!
