Detroit Tigers (former) slugger Miguel Cabrera has heard it his whole career, and he’s getting tired of it.
The constant whispers and outright accusations of his being out of shape has started to weigh on him – no pun intended.

“On social media, there are people who have no idea what they’re saying and to stop and pay attention to that is a waste of time,” he said. “As for my weight, throughout my career, I’ve been criticized for that — that I weigh too much, that I’m out of shape. It’s the same story every year.”
According to the team’s 2019 media guide, his current weight is listed at 249 lbs. And at age 36, he’s not getting any younger.
He admits to playing through pain once again this year and has played almost exclusively as the team’s designated hitter, no longer at first base. The chronic damage to his knee, he was told, will last him the rest of his playing career.
“That’s not a secret. If they saw the report on my knee, everyone knows I’m playing with pain,” he said.
