Miguel Cabrera nominated as Detroit Tigers’ representative for 2016 Roberto Clemente Award

The Roberto Clemente Award is an award that has been given out annually since 1971 in MLB to the player that ‘best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship, community involvement and the individual’s contribution to his team.’

One player is nominated from all 30 major league baseball teams. This season, our very own Miguel Cabrera is the player nominated from the Detroit Tigers.

Only one Tiger in the award’s history has ever been the recipient of the award. That came back in 1973 when ‘Mr. Tiger’ Al Kaline took home the honor.

Cabrera is well known for always smiling and showing his love for the game of baseball, especially on the field. Miggy can always be seen having some kind of interaction, whether it be with an opposing player or even with fans during the game. He truly enjoys the game of baseball and isn’t afraid to show it in the least bit.

Cabrera is very worthy of this honor. He’s been nominated in the past, but has never had the honor of being the actually recipient of the prestigious award.

Will 2016 be the year that Miggy adds another award to his mantel? Well… Only time will tell in that regard.
