On Sunday, 10 years after winning the 2012 Triple Crown, Detroit Tigers future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera played his 1000th game at Comerica Park.
During the game, which the Tigers won over the Minnesota Twins, Cabrera was 2-for-4 with an RBI, and he looked like he was trying to flashback to his younger days as he got a bit aggressive on the base paths. (Cabrera was thrown out at home after trying to catch Twins' left fielder off-guard in the first inning)
“His mind isn't 39, 40. It's his body,” manager A.J. Hinch said. “So I think sometimes he has to remind himself that Father Time might win this one. But I love the aggressiveness.”
Jim Leyland removes Miguel Cabrera from game as he clinches Triple Crown
On this day in 2012, Cabrera was removed from the game against the Kansas City Royals as he clinched the Triple Crown.
Watch as Tigers manager Jim Leyland takes Miggy out of the game in the fourth inning and he gets a nice ovation from the fans in attendance at Kauffman Stadium.
What's next for Miguel Cabrera?
On Friday, Detroit Tigers new President of Baseball Operations Scott Harris joined the Mitch Albom Show and he made himself pretty clear that it is not time to move on from Miguel Cabrera.
“No, it is not time to move on from Miguel Cabrera. He’s one of the best players of this generation, and he still has a ton to offer. I met with him the other day, and he has a great mindset right now.
And he’s committed to doing the work to make sure that he stays a productive player. You know, Miggy is one of the best tigers in the history of this organization. And he has earned that, and he’s a huge part of this team.”
Nation, do you agree with Scott Harris? Does Cabrera still have a “ton to offer?”
