We’re officially approaching the start of the 2020 NFL season, and as teams have solidified their 53 man rosters, there remains one conspicuously absent name from any roster.
Former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick remains without a job in the NFL; he hasn’t played since the 2016 season when he made national news for his protest against racial injustices by kneeling during the playing of the national anthem prior to games.
And according to NFL analyst Mike Florio, there’s been zero legitimate interest, despite his name coming up as a possibility in the weeks following the death of George Floyd in Minnesota.
“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, there was some “fake” interest expressed immediately after Floyd’s death, seemingly out of guilt. There has been zero interest expressed as to Kaepernick “in months.”
Prior to this, a report from Mike Silver of NFL Network indicated that there was some interest in Kaepernick’s services, while Mike Garafolo of NFL.com reported that teams had reached out to Kaepernick’s representatives about the potential of an NFL return.
His highly publicized work out last fall failed to yield a contract offer; the teams reportedly in attendance for his workout included the Eagles, Bills, Chiefs, Redskins, Jets, Titans, 49ers, and Lions.
