When the Minnesota Vikings kick off the 2021 regular season, they will do so with a new offensive coordinator as Gary Kubiak has decided to retire from football.
That being said, a Kubiak will still be calling the plays as the Vikings have decided to promote the 33-year-old Klint Kubiak to replace his father.
The reason for promoting Klint is that Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer wants to keep the current offense in place. The decision does not come as a huge surprise as the Vikings were No. 4 in the NFL in 2020 with 393.3 yards of offense per game. Their points per game did not exactly match up as they were No. 11 with 26.9 points per contest.
The #Vikings are promoting Klint Kubiak to offensive coordinator, sources tell me and @RapSheet.
Mike Zimmer wanted to keep the Kubiak offense in place, and he’ll do it quite literally. It’ll just be 33-year-old Klint — not his father Gary, who retired — calling plays in 2021.
