In past years here in the Motor City, we’ve seen just how quickly things can turn around. The 2003 Detroit Tigers came within one game of setting the all-time American League record for losses, and were playing in the World Series just three years later.
The Tigers have fallen on lean times in recent seasons, but with one of baseball’s top minor league systems and a new manager at the helm, there is reason for optimism.
MLB.com recently predicted that the Tigers would once again be American League champions, though it won’t be for a few years. According to writer Will Leitch, the 2028 World Series will be between Detroit and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
2028: Dodgers over Tigers
“The Dodgers haven’t been mentioned in a while, but there’s no doubt they’ll be good every year this decade. We don’t know many players who will for sure still be on the roster by then, but we know Mookie Betts (signed through 2032) will, which means they’ll be a force to be reckoned with. The Tigers are too proud a franchise who will have turned it around by this point behind all the young pitching they are cultivating now.”
Is this a realistic timeline to see the Tigers once again re-claim the American League pennant?
