MLB Umpire Jim Joyce retires

In Major League Baseball news this morning, umpire Jim Joyce has officially retired from professional baseball. reports that Joyce served as an umpire for 29 years. Over his career, he took part in three World Series, including 2013. He had a style all his own, especially his famous strike call at home plate.

Detroit fans will likely remember Jim Joyce in a slightly different way. He famously missed the final put out call at first base on June 2, 2010. That mistake prevented Armando Galarraga from recording the first perfect game in Detroit Tigers history.

I prefer to remember how Joyce handled the situation. Galarraga as well, detailed in the video below.

Let’s give it up for Jim Joyce! He’s an excellent example of why honesty is always the best policy. A star character in a human drama beautifully told by the game of baseball. Congratulations on a great career and all the best in retirement.]
