MSE Madness: Nick Bosa vs. Jawaan Taylor

The second round of MSE draft madness has finally started to roll. Today’s matchup is between two players who are widely considered top 10 picks, top three for Bosa. The Lions realistically could value both of these players highly. Make sure to vote on Twitter at the @MSELions account. This tournament is only gonna continue to get more interesting.

One seed: Nick Bosa, DE Ohio St.

Pros

Nick Bosa has everything you want in an edge rusher. Some of the traits Bosa possesses are strength, athleticism, bend off the edge, football IQ and great use of his hands.

When watching Bosa play at Ohio St, no other player pops off the screen more. This is the type of player that will give offensive coordinators nightmares at night.

Bosa would also be a great edge partner for Trey Flowers. This weakness for the Lions would likely become one of their biggest strengths.

Cons

Nick Bosa had his college career cut due to injury. In his senior year of high school, Bosa also tore his ACL.

It would be expensive for the Lions to trade up for Nick Bosa. Likely a future first round pick, along with the eighth overall pick.

Four seed: Jawaan Taylor, OT Florida

Pros

Jawaan Taylor is currently projected to be drafted right around the eighth overall pick. If he falls by the Jaguars at seven, Taylor could be the Lions pick.

Taylor was a three-year starter at Florida.

Taylor has the size and strength to be a monster at the right tackle position. Left tackle is more valued in the NFL, but right tackle is quickly starting to catch up.

The Lions currently have a starting right tackle in Rick Wagner. However, they could value the cap relief of Taylor. This would allow them to trade Wagner for a mid-round pick.

Cons

Jawaan Taylor had some games where he struggled with his hands. If he cleans this up, he should live up to his draft position.

Teams seem reluctant to view Taylor as a day one left tackle. Many people view him as a right tackle only. He will have to convince teams in workouts that he can be a future left tackle.

The Pick

To get Nick Bosa, it likely would require trading up with the 49ers for the second overall pick. The Lions would have to give up the eighth overall pick and likely next years first. If the Lion only could pick Jawaan Taylor or trade up for Nick Bosa, they should trade up for Nick Bosa.
