UPDATE: Prosecutors’ Office wants more information, evidence from MSU Police

(02.16.17 @ 5:00 p.m. ET): The latest update surrounding the sexual assault investigation at Michigan State is that the Ingham County Prosecutors’ Office is requesting more information and evidence from the campus police department.

Prosecutor Carol Siemon said she informed MSU Police to continue their investigation and to “submit to our office additional information and evidence.” This information comes just hours after MSU Police submitted requests for  four arrest warrants, three of which are for sexual assault and one for a non-sexual crime.

The three football players remain unidentified and suspended indefinitely from all team activities and removed from campus housing during the ongoing investigation.

(02.16.17 @ 10:35 a.m. ET): It seems we are drawing near a conclusion regarding the ongoing investigation into sexual assault claims surrounding the Michigan State Spartans football team.

On Thursday, we learned that the university police has officially submitted requests for arrest warrants to the Ingham County Prosecutors’ Office.

The arrest warrants could very well be for the three football players, still yet to be identified, that have been suspended from all team activities and removed from on-campus housing. This news comes less than 24 hours after the school announced the suspension (with pay) of staffer Curtis Blackwell.

Exactly one week ago, the university police launched an official investigation into sexual assault claims involving three unnamed football players, stemming back to January. The school also announced then it was going to open its own Title IX investigation, in addition to hiring an independent law firm to look further into the football team and their handling of all situations.

“We anticipate that the MSU Police will submit further evidentiary materials later today,” the prosecutor’s office said in a release. “Following this, the Ingham County Prosecutor’s Office will review all of the available evidence and information and make a review decision in the short-term future.”
