The Detroit Tigers have changed things up in Toledo, firing manager Doug Mientikiewicz only one year after giving him a two-year contract extension.
Speaking in an interview from his home in Florida,, Mientikiewicz said he received a call from Tigers vice president of player development Dave Littlefield delivering the bad news.
“They called me yesterday and said, ‘We’re done with you, we don’t want you in any capacity,’” Mientkiewicz said.
Littlefield had a more pat explanation.
“We just decided to move in a different direction,” said Littlefield.
