Muhammad Ali hospitalized with respiratory issue

Sad news for the sports world on Thursday as boxing legend Muhammad Ali was hospitalized for treatment of a respiratory problem.

The family is reportedly more concerned with the latest trip to the hospital that his previous visits, because of the respiratory condition that developed from his Parkinson’s Disease. His most recent hospital visit was back in January of 2015 for a severe case of urinary track infection that was originally diagnosed as pneumonia.

Doctors say that the disease likely developed from the countless blows he had taken from his boxing career. ESPN reported the following statement from Ali family spokesperson Bob Gunnell:

“He is being treated by his team of doctors and is in fair condition,” Gunnell said in a statement datelined from Phoenix, where Ali lives. “A brief hospital stay is expected. At this time, the Muhammad Ali family respectfully requests privacy.”

Muhmmad Ali is widely regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. The 3-time world champion is 74 years old. Here is a video reel of ten of his most memorable knockouts.
