Jim Harbaugh finally got the giant monkey off his back yesterday, earning his first win against the Ohio State Buckeyes since his return to his alma matter in 2015. He’d previously lost the last five attempts against the Wolverines’ hated rival.
And in doing so, he cashed in big time. He earned a $500,000 bonus for winning the Big Ten East Division, and he’s got the chance to earn even more should the Wolverines take down Iowa in next week’s Big Ten title game.
But wait, there’s more! Should the Wolverines win the College Football Playoff, Harbaugh will collect another $1 million in bonuses.
“You just keep working, keep grinding, knowing that it’s gonna pay off,” Harbaugh said following yesterday’s win. “This team is beautifully soldered together as a team, as a true team.”
However, Harbaugh isn’t the only one with a heavier wallet this week. Eastern Michigan Eagles head coach Chris Creighton has earned $35,000 in bonuses for earning seven wins as well as making a bowl game, while Central Michigan’s Jim McElwain has earned $30,000 in bonuses for reaching eight wins and making a bowl game. Additionally, Western Michigan coach Tim Lester has earned $35,000 in bonuses for reaching seven wins and a bowl game.
Michigan and Iowa will kick-off next week on Saturday at 8:00 PM EST.
