"Firstly, I want to start by thanking God and the rest of my family for always being there and supporting me throughout the years and through this decision," Barrett said on Twitter. "To coach (Jim) Harbaugh, thank you for believing in a kid from south Georgia with big dreams and allowing me to turn them into reality. My time at the University of Michigan has given me things that I will take with me wherever I go. I've made friends and made connections that will last a lifetime. To my teammates. thank you for being my brothers both on and off the field.

"With that being said. we're only just getting started. I will be returning to the University of Michigan for my last year of eligibility to complete my master's program and finish what I started with my brothers."

I have thought long and hard about what my future may hold. I want to thank my family, coaches, and close friends for helping me through this decision. These past 3 years have been nothing short of incredible. The culture and brotherhood that has been created with my teammates has set a new standard for Michigan football.

While playing in the NFL has always been a lifelong dream of mine. We still have unfinished business. Therefore, I am coming back to finish what we started!
