In June, Pavin Smith was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks seventh overall in the Major League Baseball Draft. A few days later it was announced that Smith had signed a minor league contract with the Diamondbacks that included a signing bonus north of $5 million.

For those of you who have either played baseball competitively growing up or have children who have done so, you realize the time and money commitment a family must have for it to work.

As you will see in the following video, Smith understands exactly what his family sacrificed so he could pursue his dream of becoming a professional baseball player. We don’t want to give away the surprise but we do advise you get some Kleenex ready before you watch.

BREAKING: Detroit Tigers to sign former first-round pick

Baseball may be America’s pastime but that does not mean the Detroit Tigers are not checking all countries when it comes to finding the talent they believe can help their organization move forward.

In this case, Canada happens to be the country of focus as the Tigers have reportedly purchased the contract of Phillippe Aumont from the Ottawa Champions of the Independent Canadian-American League.Aumont, who is 28-years-old, was originally selected by the Seattle Mariners with the 11th pick of the 2007 Major League Baseball Draft. He never pitched for the Mariners as he was traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in a deal that involved Cliff Lee.
