JaCoby Jones becomes the second Tiger in three days to end a game with a walk-off home run. This time it was in the 10th inning off of Royals reliever Brad Keller to give the Tigers a 3-2 win in their series opener. Jones led off the inning and sent a 2-2 laser over the left field wall. This comes just two days after Dixon Machado blasted a walk-off homer to beat the Orioles, and gives the Tigers their fourth straight win.

Jones went 2 for 4 in the game, hitting an RBI double in the 5th inning. The Tigers’ only other run of the game also came in the 5th, with a Dixon Machado sac fly which scored Jones. The Royals came back and tied it up with a Mike Moustakas home run in the sixth, followed by a Jon Jay RBI single in the seventh before the game-winning home run. Michael Fulmer notched a solid Quality Start, turning in seven innings while giving up two runs and striking out four batters in his no-decision. Joe Jimenez earned the win.
Following the celebration, Jones talked about the excitement the team is feeling early into this season.
“It’s a great atmosphere. This is a great team, a great group of guys. It’s fun to be a part of and we’re just going to keep going, try to get some Ws and have fun.”
