It cannot be easy to be an official, especially at the professional level. Players are screaming at you, coaches are getting in your face, and fans are telling you where you can shove it, on a regular basis. That being said, there are most likely plenty of occasions where an official has enough and gives it right back.
During Thursday night’s matchup between the Nashville Predators and Columbus Bluejackets, referee Frederick L’Ecuyer most definitely ‘gave it back’ to whoever it was getting under his skin.
Oh, wait, there was one problem. L’Ecuyer’s mic was on when he shouted the profanity.
