MUST WATCH: A tip of the cap to Justin Verlander

Justin Verlander is no longer a Detroit Tiger.

That is a phrase that many Tigers fans wished they would never have to hear. But it’s true as he has been traded to the Houston Astros for a trio of prospects.

Though Verlander was never able to win a World Series in the Motor City, he gave us countless memories that we will never forget. From his Rookie of the Year award winning season, to his two no-hitters, to his epic 2011 MVP and Cy Young campaign, JV gave us plenty to remember him by.

Not only did Verlander always give us 100% on the field but he was always gracious to the fans for our support for the team. After a great performance at Comerica Park, the crowd would give him a standing ovation and he would often acknowledge them by tipping his cap.

Justin, this time, we tip our caps to you.

Thank you for everything!

Dear Justin Verlander,

I’m not really too sure there’s going to be enough words to express our deepest gratitude to you for what you have done and accomplished, but here goes nothing.

It’s been a true joy, pleasure, and honor to watch you pitch through your 12 full years as a big league pitcher. From your Rookie of the Year campaign in 2006, to what ends up being your final start as a Tiger on Wednesday against the Colorado Rockies, and everything in between, you have been an absolute professional godsend and professional to the Tigers franchise and the Motor City as a whole.
