NFC North personnel man bashes how Bob Quinn has built Detroit Lions defense

Heading into the 2019 regular season, the hope was that the Detroit Lions defense would take a step forward. After all, following the acquisition of DT Damon Harrison midway through the 2018 season, the Lions defense improved dramatically. That, coupled with some big free agent signings, DE Trey Flowers and CB Justin Coleman, pointed towards a solid defense.

Well, the 2019 regular season is now in the books and the Lions finished with one of the worst defenses in the NFL.

But why was the defense so bad?

According to on NFC North personnel man, it has to do with how Bob Quinn has added unathletic players who are big and slow.

“(Devon) Kennard is like a lot of the Lions in that they’re not really good athletes,” one personnel man said. “They just don’t have a lot of speed defensively. They’ve got a lot of power guys. They’re like the ’85 Giants without ‘LT’ (Lawrence Taylor). They like big, slow guys.”

Nation, do you agree with this personnel man's observation of the Lions defense?

One thing is for sure, if the Lions want to contend anytime soon, the defense is going to have to be a lot better.
