If you followed the Detroit Lions closely in 2019, you are well aware that quarterback Matthew Stafford was playing at an extremely high level before suffering a back injury that kept him out of the final eight games of the season.
During the first eight games of the season, Stafford completed 64.3% of his pass attempts for 2,499 yards and 19 touchdowns, while tossing just 5 interceptions (106.0 passer rating if you care about that sort of thing). That’s right, Stafford was on pace to approach 5,000 yards passing and 40 touchdowns in 2019 before his injury.
NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky came out on Twitter this morning and said that Stafford “was the best QB in football” over the first eight games of the 2019 campaign.
Go re-watch the first 8 games for the @Lions last year. Matthew Stafford was the best QB in football.

Now, it is important to note that Orlovsky (and his wife) just so happen to be good friends with Matthew and his wife Kelly, so his take may be a tad bit biased.
That being said, Stafford was on pace for a special season a year ago and if he can stay healthy in 2020, good things could be coming for the Detroit Lions.
