UPDATE:
Following the game, the official explained that the unnecessary roughness call on Danny Shelton was because Shelton continued the play when he should have stopped.
Yeah, still not buying this. Terrible call.
ORIGINAL POST:
During the second quarter of Sunday’s game vs. the Indianapolis Colts, Detroit Lions defensive lineman Danny Shelton picked up a huge third-down sack, which pushed the Colts out of field goal range.
Until it didn’t.
Following the play, there was some pushing and shoving going around and a flag was eventually thrown.
When the referee announced the penalty, it was an unsportsmanlike penalty on Shelton, giving the Colts an automatic first down. Not surprisingly, they ended up scoring a touchdown a couple of plays later.
At first, Twitter exploded, calling out Shelton for picking up a boneheaded penalty. But then, it was pointed out by quite a few people that they could not see anything on video which showed Shelton doing anything wrong.
As you can see, former Lions OL T.J. Lang disagrees with the call.
What did Shelton do to earn the penalty? Haven’t seen any replays that show him doing anything to warrant that.

CBS not showing replay of the penalty because even they know it’s trash.

Well these refs are blowing their chance to ever ref a playoff game.

Nation, what do you think, did the Lions get screwed again?
