Thanks to the spread of the novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19, the National Hockey League shut down gameplay and recommended an immediate self-quarantine period for players and personnel.
And now, the recommendation has been pushed back to April 15 with no guarantee of when it will be lifted.
According to an email from NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly,
“As we get closer to the date, we’re going to have to make decisions as to what to do then,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly said in an email to the Associated Press. “We’re biting this off in chunks.”
“Depending on how the country, the world handles the virus, I think there is a possibility of playing end of June, July, August,” Washington Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan said Monday.
So far, the Ottawa Senators and Colorado Avalanche are still the only two franchises with confirmed cases of COVID-19.
The NHL schedule was paused with 189 regular season games remaining.
