Nightmare comes true for many Detroit Tigers’ fans

Published

on

As a sports fan, it is never easy to lose a star player to another team and when you lose multiple stars, the pain grows even stronger.

Not too long ago, Justin Verlander, J.D. Martinez, Ian Kinsler, and David Price were all members of the Detroit Tigers.

But that was then and this is now and what happened on Thursday night is a nightmare for many Tigers’ fans as they will once again have to watch some of their former players compete for a World Series.

Verlander took the mound for the Houston Astros against Price and the Boston Red Sox in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. Both pitchers were able to get through the first two innings unscathed, but in the top of the third, J.D. Martinez stepped to the plate against his former teammate, Justin Verlander.

Martinez won the battle as he blasted a home run off of Verlander to give the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. JV struggled in the game, giving up four earned runs in six innings of work as Price took advantage, going six innings without giving up a run as the Red Sox won 4-1 to advance to the World Series. In the game, Kinsler also chipped in as he was 2-for-4 with a run scored.

A year ago, Verlander won his first World Series, something he was not able to get done with the Tigers. Now, Price, Martinez, Kinsler, and Rick Porcello, who also pitches for the Red Sox have an opportunity to win it all.

Personally, I will be happy to watch those former Tigers win a World Series, but that is just me.

Unless you live under a rock, you certainly know by now that the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans square off this Saturday. Ahhhh yes, campus vandalism and graffiti, insults, and general smack talk have already hit fever pitch.

But, as we begin to look towards the game itself on Saturday, all the makings for an incredible game are there. The Wolverines are coming off an absolute shellacking of the formerly No. 15 Wisconsin Badgers, while the Spartans did what most thought of as the unthinkable by going to Happy Valley and taking down the formerly No. 8 Penn State Nittany Lions.

While the Spartans may have taken down Goliath last weekend in Pennsylvania, they will absolutely NOT be able to do so two weeks in a row! Call it a hunch, premonition, or whatever you’d like. But mark my words: there is no chance Michigan State wins this game. Just to back it up, I’ve got three reasons why:

That took place earlier at Little Caesars Arena which means Yzerman probably is looking for something to do for the remainder of the evening, right?

Well, it sounds like the Detroit Tigers have him covered.

According to Tony Paul of the Detroit News, it “looks like” Yzerman will be throwing out the first pitch before tonight’s game between the Tigers and the Chicago White Sox at Comerica Park.

The Tigers even have a uniform ready for The Captain.

Nothing has been officially announced but it looks like Yzerman will indeed be throwing out the first pitch before tonight’s game.
