October 25th, 2008: The day Michigan State fought back

After such an infamous battle in 2007 and a phrase that defines the rivalry to this day, 2008 seemed like it was going to be more of the same for Michigan State. Despite a bowl appearance by the Spartans and a 7-5 regular season, Mark Dantonio hadn’t made seismic waves yet in East Lansing. But in 2008, the tides would start to change.

Under the guidance of Senior QB Brian Hoyer and all-time record holding RB Javon Ringer, the Spartans pulled off the upset in Ann Arbor 35-21. Ringer would eclipse 200 all-purpose yards with 194 on the ground to go along with two touchdowns. This was a powerful statement for the Spartans and it would lay the woodwork for the next seven years.
