On Deck: Detroit Tigers (15-18) @ Baltimore Orioles (20-12)

The Detroit Tigers simply aren’t good right now. After losing two of three to the Washington Nationals, the Tigers now sit three games below .500. The offense hasn’t been consistent, the starting pitching hasn’t been good and the managing has been just as poor as the rest.

With a four-game series against the surging Baltimore Orioles coming up, there isn’t much time to waste for a Detroit team that still has dreams of competing for a World Series. The season turnaround begins with the starting pitching. The Orioles lucked out and will likely avoid Jordan Zimmerman this series, so the pressure will be on the likes of Justin Verlander and Anibal Sanchez to get their seasons on track. Some improved pitching, along with the continued strong play of players like Nick Castellanos and Ian Kinsler could mean a revitalization of the Tigers we’ve all been hoping to see.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the Orioles, who come into this series against the Tigers sitting pretty atop their division. Baltimore has won five of its last six games, and behind the bats of Manny Machado, Chris Davis and Mark Trumbo continue to play some of the best baseball in the MLB. And while their pitching staff doesn’t contain the most recognizable names, the likes of Chris Tillman and Kevin Gausman have done enough so far this year to get the job done. On top of it all, the Orioles currently rank No.1 in the MLB with 13 wins at home this season. It’s going to be an uphill battle for the Tigers, but they’ll do their best to get back on track starting tonight at Camden Yards.
