On Saturday at noon ET, South Carolina State will take on Jackson State in the Cricket Celebration Bowl.
If you are a fan of the Detroit Lions, there is one player you should be paying close attention to he is South Carolina State CB Decobie Durant.
Though Durant does not have great size for an NFL cornerback, Durant is scrappy and there is no doubt that he can cover a receiver. Look for him to play nickel at the next leve.
During SCSU's loss to Clemson this season, Durant had two interceptions.
From The Draft Network:
Pros: Durant is a quick footed and active cornerback prospect. Possessing a smooth backpedal, he’s easily able to plant, drive, and attack downhill on targets once the ball is released into his coverage areas. Light on his feet, he contains adequate turn and run skills as he remains in phase through the duration of routes. He also has the hip fluidity to turn his hips in any direction when in man-to-man coverage. Not only a corner that can crod windows, but he also can get the ball back to the offense. A big play and turnover machine throughout his career, he’s been able to come up with timely plays to alter the momentum back onto his teams side. An average tackler, he steps downhill in run support, but won’t go out of his way to make standout plays in that area. A natural competitor, his drive shows up when the ball is in the air.
Cons: Still in need to gain weight, Durant’s lack of bulk shows up in route stems and when coming down in run support. A wiry frame from top to bottom, he can lose the battle within routes because of his lack of bulk and overall strength. Needing to gain body strength/mass will be needed. Getting off of perimeter blocks is another area where it shows up as he can spend too much time sticking on initial blocks prior to peeling off of them.
