It’s Opening Day! Baseball is back on the TV and radio today after a long winter. The Tigers travel to Toronto to take on the Blue Jays to begin the season. The two teams will send Jordan Zimmermann and Marcus Stroman to the mound looking for their first victory of the season.
Detroit is playing on Opening Day for the first time since 2015. They bring a sense of optimism north with them from spring training. Gardenhire wants them to believe that they will be a good team and that is important from the manager.

Marcus Stroman will be tasked with quieting the Tigers bats as he makes his second opening day start for the Blue Jays. He is coming off of a rocky season last year but has shown that he can be a quality pitcher. He is short, 5’8, but he uses that as a chip on his shoulder for all of the people that doubt his ability.
The Blue Jays will be without their stud prospect Guerrero Jr to begin the season as he tweaked his oblique during spring training. He should join the team when he recovers from that injury unless the Blue Jays are worried about service time as they are amid a rebuild.

Zimmermann will have his hands full even without Guerrero in the lineup for the Blue Jays. He will have to face the likes of Grichuk, Pillar, and Alford along with Smoak and Galvis. He needs to keep the bases clean to have a good outing. If he keeps the ball in the park, the Tigers will be in good shape.
