Opinion: The Detroit Tigers will release SP Jordan Zimmermann

On Friday, reports surfaced that Detroit Tigers SP Jordan Zimmermann was going to be slowed down due to forearm tightness. Now, a day later, the Tigers announced they are placing Zimmerman on the 45-day DL and I believe the move will end his tenure in the Motor City.

Since being signed by the Tigers prior to the 2016 season, Zimmermann has gone 25-41 with a 5.61 ERA and he has often been mentioned as one of the worst free-agent signings in Detroit sports history. After all, when you sign a pitcher to a 5-year, $110 million deal, you expect him to be a top of the rotation type player who ends up playing in All-Star Games. Instead, Zimmermann has battled injury after injury, while collecting a monster paycheck that was clearly a mistake by Tigers GM Al Avila.

By the time Zimmermann is eligible to come off the 45-DL, it will be right around Sept. 1 and the Tigers will have roughly 23 games left, which would be about 4-5 starts at best for the right-hander. It would make little to no sense for the Tigers to bring him back unless they were absolutely desperate.

Because of this, I believe that Jordan Zimmermann has pitched his final game in a Tigers uniform and that he will eventually be released.

Nation, what do you think?
